CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Bridgeport completed a clean sweep of the 2018-2019 MVB Champions Cups. The MVB Bank Champions Cup, presented by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC), recognizes the top performing high schools in the state for their overall athletic and academic achievement.
By qualifying for the baseball state championship game, the Bridgeport boys passed Fairmont Senior in a close race to clinch the championship. The Indians edged the Polar Bears 667-662. In addition to their sixth consecutive baseball title, the swimming team also claimed a title.
Four of the top five boys teams are from the Big 10 Conference. Winfield finished third in the standings while Robert C. Byrd and East Fairmont completed the top five.

For the ladies, Bridgeport dominated the field, finishing 177 points ahead of second place finisher Winfield. The Indians’ lone state championship came in volleyball but they scored points in eight of the nine sports. BHS teams finished as runners-up in cross country, swimming and track.
Fairmont Senior finished third. Oak Glen and Shady Spring tied for fourth.
