Lewisburg teenager dies; charges increased against alleged shooter

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — A Greenbrier County teenager has died from injuries suffered in a shooting last week and now police have charged the alleged shooter with murder.

Edward Alexander Smith-Allen

Alaisia Smith, 17, died at Charleston Area Medical Center Wednesday. She had been on life support since being shot last Friday at Dorie Miller Park where she was in a parked car with friends.

Edward Alexander Smith-Allen, 19, was originally charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm and turned himself in to police last Saturday. He was released after posting $5,000 bail. The charges were increased after Smith’s death.

Smith-Allen was arrested in Columbus, Ohio, Wednesday by U.S. Marshals following Smith’s death. He’s awaiting an extradition hearing.

An original criminal complaint said multiple witnesses described Smith-Allen’s actions as “playing,” at the time the weapon discharged.
