Clarksburg Police Chief set to retire following 30 years of service

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — After 30 years of service to the Clarksburg Police Department, Chief Robert Hilliard is hanging up the badge.

The city of Clarksburg made the announcement of his departure on Tuesday.

Hilliard joined the force in 1989 and held titles of Corporal, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. CPD said Hilliard was also the Commander of the Clarksburg Police Department’s Detective Division, SWAT Team Commander, Range Instructor, Taser Instructor, Sub Gun Instructor, and Shot Gun Instructor.

His achievements include being the recipient of numerous Sherlock Holmes Awards and the recipient of the Captain Smith Award, an award dedicated to only one member of the Department.

Hilliard has been the Chief of Police since December 2013.
