Two suspects on the run, following Wyoming County shooting

WYOMING COUNTY, W.Va. — One suspect is in custody, while two others remain at-large, after a man was wounded by gunfire during an alleged robbery at a home Wednesday in Covel.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired at the residence, where they found the victim, Russell McBride, with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center. The extent of his injuries was not disclosed.

According to investigators, the shooting occurred when three men in a pickup truck arrived at McBride’s house, and opened fire with pistols and a shotgun, while attempting to steal an ATV.

One of the suspects, David Nelson, later was located and arrested at his home in Matoaka. He was charged with attempted murder and tampering with evidence.

The other suspects were identified as Derrick Milam and David Weis.

Anyone with information about the location of Milam and Weis is asked to contact the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia.
