Wheeling Suspension Bridge closed until further notice

WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Suspension Bridge has been closed until further notice after an overweight vehicle drove on it Saturday evening.

Wheeling Police announced that the bridge has been closed because a coach bus crossed just before 7 p.m, violating the historic bridge’s weight limit.

A West Virginia Division of Highways crew is set to inspect it and decide when the bridge will reopen.

The driver of the bus was cited for being an overweight vehicle and failure to maintain a traffic control device.

Wheeling celebrated the bridge’s 170th birthday last week.
