DOH inspector injured after being struck in work zone

CLENDENIN, W.Va. — A project inspector with the state Division of Highways was struck by a motorist in a Kanawha County work zone Tuesday morning.

The inspector was taking a look at a paving project on Interstate 79 near the Clendenin exit at about 8:20 a.m. when he was hit by a pick-up truck.

A statement from the DOH said the worker was taken to a Charleston hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

“While he continues to be evaluated, we are relieved to hear it wasn’t worse. Our thoughts are with him and his family as we pray for a speedy recovery,” the statement said.

A spokesman for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department said the driver of the truck did stop and remained on the scene.
