Clarksburg council suspends Howe for 30 days

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Members of the Clarksburg City Council voted Thursday to suspend the city manager for 30 days.

Martin Howe faced allegations of urban decay, misappropriating funds and unprofessionalism.

The council voted 4-3 to suspend Howe in front of a packed council chamber. Howe will be paid during his suspension.

Howe has been city manager since 2005. The council voted in May to extend Howe’s contract to 2023 and increase his salary to $142,326.

City clerk Annette Wright will act as interim city manager during Howe’s suspension. Council will reconsider Howe’s time with the city after the period concludes.
