Wheeling police officer suffers serious injuries following dog attack

WHEELING, W.Va. — A police officer for the City of Wheeling is recovering from injuries suffered in a dog attack.

Wheeling PD said the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night on Henderson Street when an officer was sent to the area for a possible domestic.

According to a release by WPD, upon the officer arriving at a home during the search and having the door opened by a person inside, a dog lunged at and attacked the officer.

The officer was bitten in multiple areas and after several attempts to calm the dog and concerned for his safety, the officer shot and killed the dog.

Wheeling PD said the officer was transported to a local hospital for serious injuries that required multiple stitches in areas.
