Murder charge against Charleston man dropped

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A murder charge against a Charleston man who admitted to killing his wife has been dropped.

Frank Jay Cantley, 44, told police he killed Stephanie Cantley over the weekend at their Tinder Avenue home.

The Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office said the medical examiner needs additional information to determine her death, adding the work will not complete before Frank Cantley appears in court on July 23 for a preliminary hearing.

Police say Stephanie Cantley had bruising around her neck.

Frank Cantley will be released from jail in light of the charge being dropped.
