CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Dozens of chapters worldwide for the Special Forces Association are being represented in Charleston this week in the 2019 Special Forces Association (SFA) International Convention.
The event began on Wednesday and runs through Saturday with events all over the Kanawha Valley but mainly focused at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Kevin Harry, the President for the SFA Chapter 68 in Kenova said the 43rd annual event has members in town from places including Germany, Philippines, and coast to coast from Maine to California.
Harry said with over 11,000 current members of US Army Special Forces from active duty to National Guard, retirees, and veterans, there are special reunions that occur at the convention.
“As far as back World War II when it was the first special service force. Korean war conflicts, the Vietnam war, and post 9/11 for Iraq and Afghanistan,” Harry told MetroNews.

“They are just getting together and remembering the sacrifices of their brothers in arm. Making sure we don’t lose sight of the sacrifices of the family that lost that loved one,” he said.
Earlier in the week, the convention featured a welcome night at the state Capitol, time at Mardi Gras Casino, a SOF aircraft and mobility display, guest speakers and special meals.
