PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. — Closing arguments were given Friday in the case of a Putnam County man accused of fatally striking another man with his car in May 2018.
Morgan Vandergriff, 39, is accused of hitting John Maynard on Ranch Lake Boulevard. Maynard was reportedly standing on the edge of a driveway at the time.
The defense asked for an acquittal, arguing the incident was an accident. The motion was denied.
Prosecutors are asking the jury to consider charges of first- and second-degree murder, as well as voluntary and involuntary manslaughter.
