ICE conducts operation in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted an operation in Morgantown on Thursday.

Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer said the agency detained people in Sabraton on Thursday night but his department did not assist.

The Morgantown Police Department was alerted last week that ICE would be operating in the area, Morgantown’s Communication Manager Andrew Stacy said. ICE did not say when they would be in town and the MPD did not help with their operations.

It is unclear how many people were detained, if they were citizens or not and what their immigration status is.

ICE officials told The Dominion Post no large scale operations were occurring in Morgantown. However, targeted enforcement is conducted every day in both West Virginia and the nation.

The Dominion Post was directed to submit a FOIA request for removals in Morgantown.

The Sabraton raid was first reported on social media on Thursday night. ICE was also reported at an apartment complex near Suncrest Towne Centre on social media on Friday. The Dominion Post was unable to verify that activity.

Unconfirmed raids have also been reported in Barboursville.

The Philadelphia ICE office is responsible for West Virginia.
