Upshur County man charged after early morning fire

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Buckhannon man has been charged with first-degree arson after setting a fire at his residence early Friday morning.

Hunter Ray Shreve, 23, allegedly set his Old Elkins Road home on fire while his parents were sleeping.

Neighbors spotted the fire and called 911. The parents were able to escape. There were no smoke alarms in the home.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office said Shreve told authorities he set the fire.

Shreve is at Tygart Valley Regional Jail with a $125,000 bail set.
