Cleveland man dead in Wheeling Island shooting

WHEELING, W.Va. — A Cleveland, Ohio man is dead from injuries suffered during a shooting on Wheeling Island on Monday afternoon.

Wheeling Police said Joseph Edward Harrison, 25, died of multiple gunshot wounds at Wheeling Hospital around 9:30 p.m. Monday. He was found unresponsive shortly after 4 p.m. on the sidewalk next to Delaware Street between South Huron and South York streets in Wheeling.

Police are searching for the shooter as they say the suspect ran from the scene. Police fanned the area searching for the suspect.

The suspect is described by police as a male in his 20s and was wearing a black shirt and was last seen running west toward the backchannel of the Ohio River.

Investigators are reviewing nearby surveillance video and the shooting scene.
