Justice touts tourism gains at conference

SNOWSHOE, W.Va. — Gov. Jim Justice spoke before tourism industry leaders on Wednesday, congratulating them for their work and proposing a gathering aimed at attracting people to West Virginia.

“We can say what we want, but it’s true,” Justice told attendees of this year’s Governor’s Conference on Tourism. “Your numbers are absolutely just knocking it out of the park.”

The conference, being held at Snowshoe Mountain Resort, focuses on attracting people to the state, as well as hospitality options and industry networking.

Justice thanked the individuals for their work in attracting people to West Virginia, noting the gains recorded since Justice entered office in January 2017.

“You don’t have to come to me to say, ‘Governor, can we do more?'” he said. “I’m going to promise you with all in me that every button that I can push within the constraints of dollars and within the legality of being to push the button for tourism, I’m going to push it. I’m going to push it every day.”

Justice concluded his remarks saying there should be an event “almost like national seminar” in which tourism industry leaders contact media outlets across the country about tourism opportunities in the state.

“I need every one of you there, and then I need every one of your in-laws and your outlaws there, too,” he said.

The conference wrapped up Wednesday; more than 250 tourism officials and small business leaders attended.
