Bench trial scheduled in false abduction case

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Cabell County woman charged with falsely accusing a man for trying to abduct her daughter at the Huntington Mall has a new trial date.

Santana Renee Adams

The case of Santana Renee Adams, 24, of Milton, was the subject a hearing in Cabell County Magistrate Court Thursday. Her attorney asked for a continuance. A bench trial has been scheduled for Nov. 15.

Adams was charged with falsely reporting an emergency in April. She had claimed a man, later identified as Mohamed Zayan, grabbed her daughter’s hair and tried to abduct her. Police said Adams later changed her story and said the situation with Zayan may have been a cultural misunderstanding.

Barboursville police said a video showed that Zayan, who was visiting the country, was nowhere near the girl.

Adams’ attorney represented her at Thursday’s hearing.
