CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginians for Life is disputing a recent poll which found more than two-thirds of West Virginia voters believe it is important for West Virginians to have access to “a full range of reproductive healthcare, including abortion.”
West Virginians for Life argues the poll, released by West Virginia FREE, had questions that skewed the results.
According to the poll, 66 percent of respondents agree it is important for people to have access to health care options.
“West Virginians regularly elect representatives to the state government who run on pro-life policies that oppose abortion,” the anti-abortion organization said.
West Virginians for Life noted last year’s passage of Amendment One, which states nothing in the state Constitution protects the right to abortion or requires related funding.
The anti-abortion group also notes West Virginia FREE argued the amendment would end abortion access in the state, which has not happened.
“Given their history of misrepresenting the issue of abortion, it is difficult to take the results of the WV Free poll seriously without seeing the details of the questions asked plus the size and diversity of those sampled,” West Virginians for Life president Wanda Franz said in a statement.
