CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Delegate Moore Capito has been elected the new chairman of the West Virginia Republican Legislative Committee. The body is the official campaign committee for Republican members of the House of Delegates.
Capito in accepting the leadership role, noted the work of his predecessor Eric Nelson who he said formed the modern incarnation of the committee and helped map the way forward.
“I am honored to call Eric a friend and delighted he has agreed to stay on board with the WVRLC to ensure a smooth transition.” Nelson established the WVRLC in 2014 to recruit and support quality Republican candidates. “He played a pivotal role in obtaining a Republican majority in the House, and now it is our job to keep it.”
“This organization oversees and manages the recruitment of talent to run for the House of Delegates and its been a success story,” said Capito.
Capito said a lot of the GOP success could be credited to a number of factors. However, he said most notably was the West Virginia GOP approach toward courting voters.
“It’s tremendously important to continue not just being West Virginia Republicans, but to be West Virginians. Because we do in West Virginia have a unique set of values that bind us outside and above the politics of it all,” he said.
