University of Charleston men’s soccer claims second NCAA title in three years

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Freddy Tracey tallied a pair of goals as the University of Charleston defeated Cal State LA, 2-0 in the NCAA Division II men’s soccer national championship match Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Tracey found the back of the net in the 10th minute and then again in the 74th minute as Charleston claimed their second national championship in the last three seasons. With his two-goal performance, Tracey earned Most Outstanding Player honors.

Jesus Cabanas also tallied an assist for UC. Alvaro Dean stopped all six shots he faced in the Charleston net. Charleston outshot Cal State LA 15-7.

UC closes the season with a 22-2-1 record. Former West Virginia University player Dan Stratford has coached Charleston to both of their national championships.
