Defending Class AAA state champion University on top in first MetroNews Power Index

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Defending Class AAA state champion University leads the way in the initial release of the MetroNews Boys Basketball Power Index.

The index takes win/loss record, schedule strength and strength of victory into account and ranks all WVSSAC schools.

The Hawks (8-2) are undefeated against in-state competition and have handed Morgantown and Poca their lone losses of the season. Cabell Midland (7-0) follows closely behind in second.

Shady Spring (8-0) leads the Class AA schools at No. 3. The Tigers have defeated five Class AAA opponents. Hedgesville (7-2) and Morgantown (7-1) round out the top five.

2019 Class A runner-up Parkersburg Catholic leads the small school squads in 21st.
