MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Veteran Williamstown head coach Fred Sauro has been selected to coach in the annual McDonald’s All-American girls basketball game on April 1st in Houston, Texas.
The McDonald’s All-Star games are in their 43th year, featuring 24 of the top high school seniors from across the United States. The girls game will be broadcast on ESPN2 prior to the boys contest. Tip time is set for 5:00pm EST.
Sauro has selected Gilmer County head coach and 2016 state champion Amy Chapman as an assistant coach.
Sauro will coach the East All-Stars. The east roster contains players that have verbally committed to or signed with such top programs as Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oregon and South Carolina.
Sauro is in his 35th season as head coach of the Williamstown girls basketball team and he is in his 52nd season of coaching overall.
Since the start of the 2015-2016 season, the Yellowjackets have compiled a record of 84-27 and they are off to an 8-5 start this season. Sauro led Williamstown to a runner-up finish in the 2017 Class A state tournament, finishing the season with a record of 21-6. He also led WHS to the 2003 Class A state crown.
