Two deaths recorded in Wood County

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A truck wreck and an apartment fire claimed two lives in Wood County Wednesday.

Authorities said a person was killed at around noon Wednesday when the truck they were driving on Interstate 77 left the highway and went over an embankment between the Staunton Avenue and Seventh Street exits.

Interstate traffic was slowed for a few hours.

A person died in a fire at the Dutch Hills Terrace Apartments on Dutch Ridge Road in Wood County Wednesday evening.

Three volunteer fire crews battled the blaze. The state Fire Marshal’s Office will try to determine a cause. Other apartments sustained some smoke damage.
