Mason County hospital cutting obstetric services positions

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. – A Mason County hospital will cut 53 positions as a result of discontinuing obstetric services later this month.

Pleasant Valley Hospital announced Wednesday it will close the office at the end of the month. The hospital will not fill 25 positions that are currently vacant, and 25 other employees will be displaced.

The hospital said additional savings will come from reducing part-time hours, retiring employees and attrition.

Gov. Jim Justice has instructed Bill Crouch, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources, to offer any support the facility needs at this time. Justice has also begun forming a rural medicine task force aimed at addressing closures of community hospitals.
