Court hearings Monday in WVU student shooting death case

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two Fairmont men accused in the Feb. 28 shooting death of WVU sophomore Eric Smith are scheduled to appear for preliminary hearings Monday in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.

Terrell Linear

A magistrate will be asked by prosecutors to find probable cause in the cases against Terrell Linear, 21, and Shaundarius Reeder, 20. The magistrate could decide to forward the charges to a grand jury.

According to a criminal complaint, Smith, of Clementon, New Jersey, was shot multiple times in the hallway of College Park Apartments. Linear allegedly told investigators he pounded on doors in the hallway “so people could watch” him kill Smith.

Linear and Reeder went back to the car to get two handguns and detectives said surveillance footage shows both men going back into the apartment hallway with guns and then fleeing less than a minute later.

Shaundarius Reeder

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.

Linear and Reeder are being held in the North Central Regional Jail without bail.

Linear request bail be set in his case during a hearing last week. It was denied by Monongalia County Circuit Judge Susan Tucker.
