Huntington set to honor healthcare workers, first responders with convoy

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Healthcare workers and first responders in Huntington will be honored on Thursday for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city has organized a first-responder convoy to salute health care workers at Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center.

“This is for the efforts they have made for the past several weeks to protect our community and keep it safe,” Bryan Chambers with the City of Huntington told MetroNews.

Chambers said there will be around 15 to 20 vehicles from police cruisers, ambulances, fire trucks, and garbage trucks with sirens on taking two laps around the hospitals.

Participating agencies will include Huntington Police, Huntington Fire, Huntington Public Works, Cabell County EMS, and more. Vehicles in the parade will line up at Huntington Fire Department Centennial Station No. 1, 839 7th Ave., at 11:45 a.m. They will leave at noon and first travel to Cabell Huntington Hospital and then to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

The City of Huntington said the public is welcome to watch the convoy along the route while practicing social distancing guidelines.

Locations where the public can watch along the route include 8th Street between 7th and 13th avenues, 13th Avenue between 8th and 12th streets, Hal Greer Boulevard between Washington Boulevard and 5th Avenue, and 5th Avenue between Hal Greer Boulevard and 28th Street.

“It is a time to take a pause and say thank you for the sacrifices that they have made. Also for all the sacrifices that our first-responders have made as well,” Chambers said.
