CHARLESTON, W.Va. — More than 10 percent of the people in Jackson County who have been known to contract the coronavirus have died.
New numbers posted Friday morning by the state Department of Health and Human Resources records two additional deaths in Jackson County, a 58-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman. That makes 15 deaths out of a total of 130 cases in Jackson County. The state has now had 46 deaths in connection with the pandemic.
The DHHR said 100 of the 130 cases in Jackson County are from the Eldercare nursing home in Ripley and 11 of the 15 deaths in the county from COVID-19 came from residents at that nursing home.
State DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said Thursday the DHHR was close to completing its investigation into Eldercare. He said the report would be made public after Eldercare is given a chance to respond to the findings.
Meanwhile, as of Friday morning, the state’s positive test rate for COVID-19 cases is at 2.43 percent with 46,844 total tests, 1,136 positive and 45,708 negative.
