FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State University is planning on allowing students back on campus when the academic year begins in August.

The return has been altered because of the coronavirus pandemic, including changes in moving and daily safety guidelines.

Mirta Martin

“Students, faculty and staff will be adhering to social distancing, they will wear the proper PPE, and they abide by the directives set forth by the office of the governor,” President Mirta Martin said. “We plan to ensure their safety and protection.”

Students will have to schedule a move-in date and time, in which the move-in period will go from July 31 to Aug. 7. Classes will begin Aug. 10.

Officials are determining the space available to students and faculty in addition to how space can be utilized while keeping the campus community safe.

Changes also include shortening the semester, with final exams taking place between Nov. 16 and Nov. 20. Winter commencement exercises will be held Nov. 21 and Nov. 22.

The commencement ceremonies for this semester’s graduates are scheduled for Aug. 8 and Aug. 9.
