DHHR says coronavirus positive test rate below 2 percent

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The positive test rate for coronavirus cases in West Virginia stayed below 2 percent Sunday.

According to the state Department of Health and Human Resources, the rate has fallen to 1.97 percent. There have been 1,490 positive tests confirmed in the Mountain State out of a total 75,490 recorded.

The COVID-19 related death total is at 67. The DHHR has received information on two deaths from Fayette County that county officials had earlier reported. A 69-year-old man and 85-year-old woman died, officials said.

“We regret to report two more deaths of West Virginians and wish their families our sincere condolences,” state DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said.

The DHHR also reported Sunday evening it’s report from Sunday morning had been adjusted slightly after a handful of counties changed their numbers. The agency said there had either been a duplicate case or that it was a case where the person lived outside of West Virginia.
