Huttonsville Prison worker tests positive for COVID-19

HUTTONSVILLE, W.Va. — Additional precautions are being taken at Huttonsville State Prison in Randolph County after a part-time worker there tested positive for COVID-19, only the second state corrections worker to test positive since the pandemic began.

The Huttonsville employee, who works as a temporary correctional officer, is quarantined at home, according to the state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety. He worked less than four hours last Thursday and reported not feeling well that evening. He was tested for COVID-19 Friday and a positive result came back over the weekend.

DMAPS said it appears the worker had minimal conduct with inmates and staff. He was wearing a mask his entire shift. The inmates he was supervising with and the unit they are part of, a total of 44, are under quarantine as a precaution.

Huttonsville officials are working with the Randolph County Health Department.

A South Central Regional Jail worker tested positive last month. He’s since returned to work.
