Mylan Park among those seeing increased activity

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Activities are available for families at Mylan Park near Morgantown and director of Aquatics and Track Jennifer Lainhart says the start was slow, but people are returning.

“We started out pretty slow and we’ve seen people start to come back as they feel comfortable,” Lainhart said. “Definitely coming out here and seeing what we’ve put in place makes people feel comfortable.”

Masks are required in all facilities except for the pool, social distancing is enforced, there is increased disinfection of high-touch areas and guests are asked to read and agree to a social contract. Additionally, locker rooms are not available and guests are asked to bring their own towel.

Youth sports league practices are going now and facilities are available for rent. The park has a track and field complex, athletic fields, community center and pavilion.

“The entire park is open and available,” Lainhart said. “Mylan Park is a private facility so all of our fields are rental only, so you do have to have a rental agreement with us and the requires 24-hour notice.”

There are rates for non-profits and field rentals can be by the hour or by the day.

An order from Gov. Jim Justice allows for camp season to begin June 22. Mylan Park has facilities for baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, football, martial arts and boxing.

“People can participate in camps here, there are some guidelines so there maybe changes to what you would think of as a normal camp based on those guidelines,” Lainhart said. “We’ll be following those governor’s guidelines for return to camp.”

Lainhart anticipates camp space to be reserved quickly and encourages groups to make plans soon. Registration is available now online.
