Cover named Division of Forestry director

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Tom Cover has been appointed as the next director of the West Virginia Division of Forestry.

State Commerce Secretary Ed Gaunch on Tuesday announced Cover as the next director, succeeding Barry Cook who died in May.

Cover is an alumnus of Potomac State College and West Virginia University. He most recently served as a regional forester for the Division of Forestry’s Region 4, which includes Fayette, Raleigh, Wyoming, McDowell, Mercer, Summers, Monroe and Greenbrier counties.

“I’m really looking forward to the position and the challenge that comes with,” he said in a press release. “I’m proud of what Forestry has accomplished and want to see it continue to grow.”

Cover also previously worked for Allegheny Wood Products and Georgia Pacific.

Cover said he plans on meeting with state foresters to assess ongoing and planned projects.
