CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Following a week of somewhat steady daily positive test rates for COVID-19, the state Department of Health and Human Resources released information Friday morning that showed that rate climbing back toward the 5 percent mark.
The DHHR said 4.81 percent of those tested in the past 24-hours in West Virginia tested positive for the virus. That’s a similar number the agency listed on July 14 and July 16. Positive cases increased by 173 from Thursday morning to Friday morning.
There are now 1,604 active cases in the Mountain State, while nearly 4,000 residents who’v had the virus since early March have recovered. There have been 251,565 tests given. There have been 103 COVID-19 deaths in West Virginia.
The DHHR said hospitalizations for COVID-19 have increased to 88 statewide. Thirty-eight of those 88 patients are in intensive care. The DHHR said 16 patients are on ventilators.
