GARY, W.Va. — Water service to more than 570 homes and businesses in the McDowell County community of Gary has been restored. Water officials say the broken pump which had caused the service to be out since last week was finally repaired about 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
Governor Jim Justice had sent the West Virginia National Guard to the plant to assist with the repairs on Tuesday. He noted the repair in his briefing from the State Capitol Wednesday and said he has also sent in a team to find ways to shore up the system.
“I’ve dispatched engineers and additional staff from the West Virginia Water Development Authority and the Public Service Commission to meet with city officials in Gary along with the Mayor and others in charge. I want them to come up with a long-term solution, not just a fix,” said the Governor.
The customers are under a boil water advisory until further notice. Potable water is still being provided in the town.
