COVID-19 deaths continue to climb

CHARLESTON, W.Va. The state Department of Health and Human Resources says a 98-year-old man has died of COVID-19. The death is the 116th in West Virginia since the pandemic started and the 13th death this week.

“We are deeply saddened by this news, a loss to both the family and our state,” state DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said.

While deaths and hospitalizations have increased, the state’s daily positive test rate has remained steady at 2.6 percent. The rate of spread number, known as Rt, is at 1, the lowest it’s been in weeks.
