Former Bluefield CB Isaiah Johnson bound for Arizona State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — One of the nation’s top defensive backs in the Class of 2021 will play for Herm Edwards in Tempe. Former Bluefield cornerback Isaiah Johnson has verbally committed to play at Arizona State.

Johnson played at Bluefield for three seasons, all of those seasons saw the Beavers advance to the Class AA state championship game. Last month, Johnson transferred to St. Bernard High School in Playa Del Rey, California.

Johnson also played wide receiver at Bluefield, but his junior season was cut short after just two games due to a lower leg injury. Johnson selected Arizona State over Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma and USC. He had West Virginia listed in his ‘Top 8’ list earlier in the spring. Johnson is tabbed by 247sports.com as the No. 6 cornerback recruit in the country for next year’s class.
