Games for Monongalia County schools canceled Friday afternoon

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — High school football teams in Monongalia County were informed Friday afternoon that they will not be allowed to compete on the opening night of the season.

Mon County moved into the red category on the state COVID protocol metrics at 12:30pm Friday. The daily report, which is normally released at 10am was delayed. Along with the delay, the report said the map would not be updated until Saturday at 9pm.

The canceled games are:

  • Bridgeport at Morgantown
  • University at Parkersburg South
  • Clay-Battelle at Bishop Rosencrans, Oh.

WVSSAC Executive Director Bernie Dolan told MetroNews in a text message that the SSAC received a directive from the governors office involving this situation.

Parkersburg South has scheduled a game vs. Cabell Midland at 7:30 Friday night at Erickson Stadium.
