MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Nearly two dozen high school football games have been canceled as a result of Saturday’s COVID metrics map. Monongalia County is in the red category. Fayette, Kanawha, Logan, Mercer, Mingo, Monroe, Putnam and Wayne Counties are listed as orange.
The list of canceled games includes contests that were tentatively rescheduled for Monday, September 7th if counties came out of orange status.
Rescheduled games hopeful to be played on September 7 (now officially canceled):
- Winfield at Herbert Hoover
- St. Albans at Nitro
- Capital at South Charleston
- Midland Trail at Oak Hill
- Sissonville at Meadow Bridge
Regularly scheduled September 11 games canceled:
- Brooke at University
- Clay-Battelle at Valley Wetzel
- Cameron at Trinity
- Parkersburg at Capital
- George Washington at Hurricane
- Spring Valley at Riverside
- South Charleston at St. Albans
- Herbert Hoover at Nitro
- Sissonville at Scott
- Buffalo at Montcalm
- Tolsia at Braxton County
- St. Marys at Wayne
- Princeton at Oak Hill
- Liberty Raleigh at Pikeview
- Greenbrier East at Poca
- Wheeling Central Catholic at Winfield
- Midland Trail at Meadow Bridge
- Mingo Central at Point Pleasant
All games involving Logan County and Monroe County schools were previously canceled. Logan schools opened preseason practices on August 31 and must complete 14 practice days before competing.
The status of the Lincoln-Grafton game for Friday is in doubt. A positive COVID case was discovered around the Lincoln program. The team halted preseason practice on September 2.
