MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — New guidance has been released from the Governor’s office and the DHHR that allows teams in some counties to immediately return to fall sport competitions.
The new COVID protocols map released on Tuesday morning included a ‘gold’ category, which is now in play alongside the green, yellow, orange and red categories. SSAC Executive Director Bernie Dolan confirmed that counties in the gold category are allowed to compete against in-county opponents or other gold county opponents immediately.
The counties in the new gold category are: Boone, Fayette, Logan, Putnam and Mingo.
Kanawha and Monroe Counties remain in the orange, where only conditioning drills are allowed. Monongalia County remains red, pausing all extracurricular activities.
In an update to fan attendance protocols, grandparents are now allowed to attend competitions involving teams in the green and yellow categories. Previously, only parents and household family members were allowed at games.
The next weekly map will be released Saturday, September 19 at 5 p.m. That map will determine the status of all sports for the week of September 21-26.
