Man charged in Wheeling fire

WHEELING, W.Va. — Police have charged a man with first degree arson following a set fire that destroyed a vacant house on Wheeling Island Monday night.

Jason Kincannon, 24, of Wheeling, was arrested by Wheeling police hours after the blaze at 37 S. Penn Street.

Firefighters were called to the scene at shortly after 10:00 p.m. When authorities arrived they saw a man inside the structure. He ran from the scene. Police said they were able to identify Kincannon from home video surveillance.

The flames spread rapidly through the upper floors and roof. Fire crews were on scene into the early morning hours.

Kincannon is in the Northern Regional Jail.
