Some counties show increasing numbers in latest COVID-19 data

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Harrison and Upshur counties continued to show growth in COVID-19 cases and percent positivity rates in case numbers released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources Saturday morning.

Both counties are in the ‘orange’ category on the daily alert map from the DHHR. Harrison County’s infection rate, based on a rolling 7-day average of COVID-19 cases, topped 16 Saturday. The percent positive rate of COVID-19 tests is just before 6.6%. Upshur County’s infection rate is at more than 21 cases and the percent positive rate tops 11%.

Those increasing numbers may have an impact on the county school systems heading into next week. The state Department of Education will release its education map Saturday at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Kanawha County may be heading toward its first in-person instruction week this school year. The county solidified its new ‘gold’ ranking with a percent positive rate of just more than 4% on Saturday’s map.
