Human remains found in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An investigation is underway after human remains were found Wednesday on the Decker’s Creek Rail-Trail in Morgantown.

According to Morgantown police, the remains were discovered underneath the Interstate 68 bridge near Sabraton at just after 6 p.m.  Police said the remains were spotted by two volunteers of Friends of Decker’s Creek cleaning a camp site along the trail.  They were inside of an old coke oven in a wooded area just off the trail.

Officers confirmed that the remains were human and no forms of identification were on the scene.

Detectives from the Morgantown Police Department are processing the scene and conducting an active investigation. The State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death and help to identify the person.
