DHHR adds 206 new COVID-19 cases

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two West Virginia counties were in the ‘orange’ category on the daily COVID-19 map released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources Saturday morning.

Doddridge and Mingo counties are listed as having “heightened” coronavirus transmission. If the counties stay orange on Saturday evening’s Department of Education COVID-19 map there will be no in-person instruction in schools in those counties next week.

The DHHR confirmed 206 new cases of COVID-19 across the state in Saturday morning’s numbers. The daily positivity test rate dropped to 1.70%.

There were five deaths added including a 78-year old male from Mercer County, a 92-year old female from Kanawha County, a 79-year old male from Kanawha County, a 96-year old female from Fayette County, and a 71-year old male from Kanawha County.

There are 173 people hospitalized in West Virginia with COVID-19, 60 of them are in ICU while 27 are being treated on ventilators.
