New Covid 19 positives drop significantly in W.Va. from Friday’s report

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Saturday’s Covid 19 report from the state Department of Health and Human Resources showed a substantial drop in new positive cases from Friday’s pandemic high of 498. The agency on Saturday reported 221 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The state’s daily positivity rate on Saturday was 2.51 percent.

Saturday’s report included information on three additional fatalities blamed on the virus. Saturday’s victims were an 84 year old woman from Grant County, a 73 year old Fayette County man, and a 59 year old female from Cabell County. The total number of deaths blamed on the virus in West Virginia as of Saturday stood at 399.

The daily statewide alert map put out by the DHHR included one county in red which was Doddridge County. Orange counties included Berkeley, Morgan, Randolph, Upshur, Wirt, Wyoming, Mingo, and Wayne Counties. Gold counties on the daily map included Monroe, Pendleton, Nicholas, Clay, Braxton, and Gilmer.

Mingo, Morgan, Randolph, Wyoming, and Wirt Counties would be red on the map under the alternative metric for determining Covid 19 spread.

Those colors however are NOT the official color coded map which dictates next week’s schools and extra curricular status. The Department of Education will release that map at 5 p.m.
