MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Another non-conference opponent has been added to the Mountaineer men’s basketball team’s schedule.
The SEC/Big 12 Challenge schedule was announced Wednesday. The schedule includes the Florida Gators making the trip from Gainesville to Morgantown.
The last time the Gators played in Morgantown was back in 1970. The Mountaineers beat Florida 88-87 in overtime at the Mountaineer Field House. This will be the first meeting between the two at the WVU Coliseum.
When these two face off, it will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two programs. The last time these two was in 2018. Florida and West Virginia squared off in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Gators defeated the Mountaineers 66-56.
Florida leads the all-time series 6-3, including winning the last three matchups. Bob Huggins’ first point guard at WVU, Darris Nichols, is an assistant coach with the Gators.
