CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources have released guidelines for those traveling during the holiday season as Thanksgiving approaches and the COVID-19 remains.
State Health Officer Dr. Ayne Amjad said during the week that West Virginians only stay around immediate family members, those living in the same household.
“If you had COVID-19, especially within the diagnosis frame, to obviously not go around any family members. If you think you have been around anyone with COVID-19 to not go around family members,” Amjad said.
“Also if you have had a test recently and have been symptomatic, to not go around any family members.”
The guidance for food includes if serving any food, consider having one person serve all the food and one person serve sharable items so that multiple people are not handling food and serving utensils.
In addition, the guidelines encourage guests to bring food and drinks for themselves and for members of their own household only instead of potluck-style eating.
Amjad also noted that people should get tested for COVID-19 before and after travels.
“If you’ve been planning to go see anyone, we do recommend to go get tested. Also go within five days because we do not know the lag with test results right now,” she said.
