CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state confirmed 1,122 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday marking the second day in less than a week that daily totals have topped the 1,000 mark.
Thursday’s number was the second highest daily total since the pandemic began. There were 1,153 confirmed cases added last Saturday.
Hospitalizations associated with the virus decreased Thursday to 415, down 14 from the day before. The state listed 11,643 active cases Thursday.
The state did add 11 deaths including an 87-year old female from Cabell County, a 70-year old male from Harrison County, a 68-year old male from Berkeley County, a 75-year old male from Ohio County, a 74-year old male from Marshall County, an 82-year old male from Kanawha County, a 63-year old female from Tyler County, a 92-year old female from Marshall County, an 85-year old male from Kanawha County, a 64-year old male from Wood County, and a 62-year old male from Kanawha County.
“As many of us have grown tired of COVID-19, it is more important than ever to stay vigilant in our prevention efforts,” state DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said Thursday. “Our sympathies are extended to these families.”
Pandemic death totals are now at 623.
The daily positivity test rate remained steady at 5.22%.
Three counties have been added to the “red” category, the highest rate of spread. Boone, Wayne and Wood counties join Jackson, Marshall and Mineral counties. The designation requires all-remote learning for schools in those counties.
