MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Due to Friday’s state COVID metrics map, a pair of Class AAA state quarterfinals scheduled for this evening have been postponed.
Berkeley County changed to red on the Friday map release. Therefore the Bridgeport-Martinsburg and Spring Mills-Cabell Midland games have been pushed back. If Berkeley County drops back to orange on the Saturday 10 a.m. map release, both of those games will be played Saturday at 4 p.m. It is possible that the Spring Mills-Cabell Midland game could be pushed back until the evening to accommodate the lengthy travel.
If Berkeley County remains red on Saturday’s map release, No. 4 Martinsburg (4-time defending state champion) and No. 9 Spring Mills will be eliminated from the bracket. No. 5 Bridgeport and No. 1 Cabell Midland would advance to the semifinal round next weekend.
No. 3 Musselman is currently scheduled to host No. 6 Spring Valley Sunday at 5 p.m. If that game is unable to be played, Musselman would advance to the semifinals because the Applemen needed to wait on Spring Valley’s color on the map to improve. The ‘team that needs to wait’ can’t be penalized for waiting on their opponent.
