Number of red counties for coronavirus spread in state remains at one

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Hampshire County remained the only red county in West Virginia, signifying the highest level of coronavirus transmission, in Saturday reporting from the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

Overall, the Mountain State’s daily virus infection rate was 3.54 percent out of 10,423 new test results reported while the cumulative rate was down a little to 5.56 percent.

Known active cases statewide fell below 13,000 to 12,540.

Two additional virus-related deaths were confirmed — a Berkeley County woman, age 79, and a Preston County man, age 93 — bringing the pandemic death toll in West Virginia, up to this point, to 2,201.

Removed was the death of a Hampshire County woman, age 83, reported on Dec. 22, 2020 that was an error, according to DHHR.

The rate of first vaccine shots given compared with doses received was 103.2 percent, reflecting available extra doses in vials.

For second shots, the administration rate was 93.6 percent of doses received.
