DHHR: Active COVID-19 cases drop by more than 14,000 in the past month

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia have dropped by an average of 485 cases a day during the past month.

Active cases are now at 8,795 following the state Department of Health and Human Resource’s Monday morning report. Active cases were at 23,342 30 days ago, representing an overall drop of 14,547 over that time.

The DHHR confirmed 238 new cases Monday and two new deaths including a 71-year old male from Kanawha County and a 75-year old female from Kanawha County. Total deaths are now at 2,263 since the pandemic began.

Twenty-five counties are currently green on the COVID-19 daily alert map. There continue to be no red counties.

The state reports more than 166,000 residents have been fully vaccinated.
