Around 12,000 Appalachian Power customers still without service

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Around 12,000 Appalachian Power customers still do not have electricity, but the utility reported Tuesday evening efforts to restore service are improving.

Eight-five percent of customers who lost service from the Feb. 11 and Feb. 15 systems now have electricity. Most of the remaining outages are in Cabell, Mason and Wayne counties.

Crews are using drones and helicopters to uncover more damage in the field. Access to remote areas remains an issue as roads are still covered by trees and fallen power poles.

Most customers should have service restored by 10 p.m. Friday.
